Parenting the Positive Discipline Way

Positive Discipline... What is it?

Let's face it, parenting is hard! It's the most important job we have, which is why there is so much pressure to get it right. Right?

Positive Discipline is based on the works of Alfred Adler and William Dreikurs. There are seven basic principles of the Positive Discipline approach.

  1. Children are social beings

  2. Behavior is goal-oriented

  3. A misbehaving child is a discouraged child

  4. Social Interest/ A sense of Community

  5. Equality

  6. Mistakes are opportunities to learn

  7. Kindness and firmness at the same time

*Nelson, J. & DeLorenzo, C. (2021). Positive Discipline in the Montessori Classroom. Parent Child Press. P.11

Using these seven principles, the Positive Discipline approach respectfully teaches essential social and life skills. Our goal as parents is to raise our children to become responsible, respectful, and resourceful members of our community, but how?

Sign-up for my six-week Positive Discipline Parenting classes to learn how to implement this approach in your household. Classes are taught through experiential activities and workshops with other parents experiencing the same issues!
